Joy Reid and Ronan Farrow Debut with Weak Ratings in 25-54 Demo

Monday afternoon saw the debut of two new MSNBC programs: The Reid Report (hosted by Joy Reid) and Ronan Farrow Daily. Both premieres were met with tepid ratings, including fourth-place finishes in the key 25-54 demographic.

Farrow’s 1 p.m. ET debut accumulated 46k demo viewership, finishing in fourth place behind Fox’s 126k, HLN’s 84k, and CNN’s 83k. His 216k total viewership tied for second place with CNN, behind Fox’s 914k and ahead of HLN’s 196k. Farrow’s total viewership figure was MSNBC’s lowest for the day.

Reid’s 2 p.m. ET debut garnered just 38k in the key demo, a fourth-place figure that was doubled by third-place HLN’s 76k. CNN came in second with 93k; Fox was first with 97k. The Reid Report collected 262k total viewers, placing it in third behind CNN’s 279k and Fox’s 965k.

Farrow’s much-hyped debut marked the first time he’d ever hosted an MSNBC program. Some reviewers worried it was a “vanity project,” while others gave it an “‘A’ for effort.”

Reid has long been an MSNBC mainstay and a regular fill-in host for Alex Wagner and Martin Bashir.
