Media Boycott: MoveOn.org Calls For Democrats To Move Off Fox News

obama.foxnews

According to many pundits, one of the central goals of President Obama’s increasingly high-stakes war with Fox News is to galvanize his supporters on the left.

Well, you can check that box off: influential progressive PAC MoveOn.org is calling for all Democrats to stay off Fox for the rest of the year in support of Obama’s decision to do the same.

From the petition:

President Obama is fighting back against FOX. The White House communications director said FOX is a “wing of the Republican Party…let’s not pretend they’re a news network.”

To draw attention to its biased coverage, President Obama will not appear on FOX for the rest of this year. Can you sign this petition asking Democrats to support President Obama’s stance by staying off FOX as long as he does?

A compiled petition with your individual comment will be presented to Democratic senators and representatives.

The involvement of MoveOn is good news for Obama: it allows him to continue to undermine Fox News without issuing all of the messages through the White House and risking blowback. But isn’t that something he should have been doing more of in the first place?

Either way, Orrin Hatch probably wants to kick someone in the teeth right about now.

So, is the goal here to force Fox News to become a legit news organization reporting both sides? This proposed boycott by a far-left organization (which has hated Fox since the day it was founded) would force Fox to become exactly what it is accused of being: a far-right mouthpiece that never lets a Democrat on the air to argue his side. Again, I would ask that those who think Fox is illegitimate, point to examples of NEWS stories where it got the facts wrong. Thinking the ACORN story was overblown is a far cry from thinking the ACORN story was erroneous. Arm yourself with facts, or admit the argument against Fox is without merit and solely a political ploy.

Isn’t this redundant? Asking Democrats/liberals to not watch Cluster-Fox?

…by the by, I ask those who think Cluster-Fox is *legitimate* to point to examples of NEWS stories that were real.

  • straitshooter

Here you go, ingenieux. It took all of 10 seconds to cut and paste a legitimate news story off the Fox web site.

Now it’s your turn. Go cut and paste a story from their site with LIES in it. Not stories you don’t like, or stories that might make the administration unhappy, but stories with verifiable falsehoods.

    You fraud.

Oh my goodness! Here’s another one!

This quote from Bruce Bartlett belies the notion there’s a separation between Fox’s news and opinion shows.

“My advice was ignored. Instead, I was thrown under the bus. I was fired from my job at a conservative think tank, and the conservative media largely blacked out my book. My publicist was told that orders had come down from on high that it was to receive no mention at Fox News or any other Rupert Murdoch-owned media outlet. Whoever gave that order was very smart. Attacks in those forums, known for their slavish support for Bush, would have helped; ignoring the book was the worst thing they could do to me.”

This is what happens when a Republican goes off the reservation in claiming tax cuts are not a panacea for all that ails us, and how Fox uses ALL of it’s divisions as a weapon.

  • straitshooter

Right. That proves nothing. Bartlett’s quote is interesting, but it is not proof. It is an opinion.

Do you even understand how to formulate an argument? Seriously, have you ever had a discussion with another breathing human? Go find a Fox News story and show me the part that was factually wrong. Otherwise, you have nothing. Is there anyone on this site willing to have a factual debate?

  • Jim R

See Media Matters; it’s a full time job.

  • straitshooter

Media Matters isn’t biased. They’re a perfectly legitimate source. Are you a crazy person?

  • straitshooter

So, let’s try this again Jim. You go find a Fox News story and show me the part that was factually wrong. You are being lazy and dishonest by directing me to a Web site staffed by people who would ejaculate in their hemp slacks if Fox went out of business.

Didn’t they do this (or try to do this) during the election… and failed?

And here I thought the left was always into “changing the strategy.” I guess not.
