Mika Brzezinski Resurrects Beyoncé Lip-Synching Outrage: ‘Are You Kidding Me? It’s Not Okay!’

On Friday morning, Morning Joe co-host Mika Brzezinski found herself growing particularly passionate during a discussion not about Chuck Hagel‘s confirmation or the suicide bombing at the U.S. embassy Turkey, but rather about… Beyoncé lip-synching the national anthem at President Obama‘s inauguration.

While Donny Deutsch agreed that a presidential inauguration performance should be done live, and Willie Geist noted the contrast between Beyoncé and Kelly Clarkson (who sang live), Brzezinski was the one really not okay with the singer being “proud of her performance of acting.”

“I think there needs to be a disclaimer,” she asserted. “When you go to see a performance, you go to see someone singing live, there. Their voice coming out of their mouth.”

“This is ridiculous,” she continued. “Let’s lip-sync the whole show. Are you kidding me? It’s not okay! That didn’t make it okay — her going and singing pitchy at a press conference.”

“She had a backing track,” Geist chimed in. “She wasn’t purely lip-synching.”

Brzezinski was undeterred, not buying the logic that that’s how she would have sounded live, “and therefore that’s why she sang, lip-synching.”

…And the chatter then turned to Milli Vanilli.

Breathe, Mika. Time to let it go.
