Patricia Arquette Inserts ‘Wage Equality’ into Oscar Speech; Meryl Streep Is Thrilled

During her Oscar acceptance speech, Patricia Arquette called for women to fight for true wage equality, and did it so forcefully that Meryl Streep jumped out of her seat in solidarity.

“To every woman who gave birth to every taxpayer and citizen of this nation, we have fought for everybody else’s equal rights,” Arquette, who won Best Supporting Actress for her work in Boyhood, said to cheers. “It’s our time to have wage equality once and for all! And equal rights for women in the United States of America!”

And Meryl Streep leapt for joy.
