SNL’s SOTU: Bashing….Martha Coakley?

Tonight SNL opened with the biggest piece of news all week: President Obama‘s State of the Union address (it edges the iPad by a hair). The optics were good — Fred Armisen looked very Obama-esque flanked by Kristen Wiig‘s Nancy Pelosi and Jason Sudeikis‘ aw-shucks grinning Joe Biden, intercut with actual SOTU footage of stone-faced Republicans and orange-faced John Boehner — but otherwise, I am not sure what they were going for. A few knocks at Martha Coakley at the top, but otherwise, I couldn’t really tell who they were mocking. Is it me? Was I just too blinded by the excitement of Jon Hamm‘s impending appearance? Because that *is* exciting. Maybe they’ll do a sketch where he has to take his shirt off. Wait, what was I saying? Cold open below.

Update: JON HAMM SHIRTLESS! That Andy Samberg gets the Internet.

Wow, it sure seemed like they were mocking Obama, to me. The Coakely stuff didn’t seem to be critical of her, but of the Democrats who threw her under the bus. The stuff about the dirty dishes, and unpaid bills was funny, especially when they cut to McCain, BIOB. The job announcement portion was too long, and boring. But the ending, where *Obama* said he didn’t care about health care – that was a zinger.

I dunno, I thought that was actually really funny.

    And who’s Jon Hamm?

  • Zakk

Wow, that almost made me crack a smile…. SNL you STNK!
