Multiple CNN insiders have told Mediaite that former Donald Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski had been offered a job at CNN before Lewandowski sat for a lengthy CNN interview this week. He gave a brief soundbite to MSNBC first (embedded below) before the lengthy CNN intervew.

Right after the Trump campaign announced Lewandowski’s firing, Lewandowski not only gave his first interview to CNN, but he sat down for 20+ minutes with Dana Bash, and she really grilled him on the details of his exit and the state of the Trump campaign.

CNN insiders have told Mediaite that Lewandowski was offered a position as commentator at the cable network before that interview took place.
CNN confirmed today they have hired Lewandowski as a political commentator. Media reporter Brian Stelter wrote out this justification for why CNN hired him:

Politico noted in its reporting that Lewandowski went right from that Bash interview to a meeting with CNN executives.
