‘Both Candidates Are Trash!’ Charlamagne Pushes Back Hard On View Hosts Pressing for Biden Endorsement
Charlamagne tha God pushed back on pressure to endorse President Joe Biden from The View’s Whoopi Goldberg and Sunny Hostin, declaring both Biden and Donald Trump are “trash.”
Charlamagne, host of SiriusXM’s The Breakfast Club, joined The View on Wednesday to promote his book Get Honest or Die Lying: Why Small Talk Sucks, and Hostin cut through the small talk quickly by diving straight into the radio show host’s refusal to endorse Biden.
“Charlamagne, now is not the time, in my opinion, to sit this one out,” she said.
“I didn’t say that. I never said I was sitting it out,” Charlamagne shot back.
“So what are you going to do?” she asked.
Charlamagne explained he will vote in November, but he wants to focus on “issues” over “individuals” when Hostin pushed again for a reason why he’s not endorsing anyone.
“If I’m sitting here telling my listeners that you have somebody out there who is a threat to democracy, you have somebody who out who said they want to suspend the Constitution to overthrow the results of an election,” he said. “You saw this person try to lead an attempted coup of this country, and I’m telling people that this guy’s a threat to democracy… There’s only two candidates out there so if I’m saying that about this individual, the choice is clear, right?”
The radio host then jumped in front of what he described as familiar territory for viewers of the show.
“I’ve seen y’all do this on The View before,” he said. “I saw y’all do this to Killer Mike when he was on The View, and Killer Mike literally sat here and said, ‘Hey, I supported Keisha Lance Bottoms, I supported Ralph Warnock, I supported Jon Ossoff… that’s your opportunity to say, clearly he’s talking about President Biden. why do y’all need us to say this if we don’t feel comfortable saying it?”
Charlamagne was referring to a February interview with Killer Mike in which the rapper refused to endorse Biden and encouraged voters to focus more on local elections.
Charlamagne told The New York Times earlier this month that he is not endorsing Biden after feeling “burned” following his endorsement in 2020. He called Republicans “crooks” and dismissed Democrats as “cowards.”
“It’s not that we need you to say it, but I think other folks need to hear,” Goldberg told Charlamagne on Wednesday, arguing “facts” are harder to get through in the media today and his endorsing Biden would strengthen his other points.
The radio host then declared both candidates are “trash,” refusing to back Biden.
“The reality is I think both candidates are trash, but I am going to vote in November and going to vote my best interest and I’m going to vote for who I think can preserve democracy, so if I think both candidates are trash and I don’t feel like endorsing one, would you rather me endorse an individual or endorse the fact that, hey, we need to go out and defend democracy,” he said.
