Reporters at State Dinner Ask John Leguizamo ‘Will Biden Do Well With Latino Voters?’
Actor and activist John Leguizamo was peppered with questions on the way into President Joe Biden’s state dinner, including whether Biden “will do well with Latino voters?”
President Biden hosted Prime Minister Anthony Albanese of Australia for a state dinner Wednesday night, and reporters were on hand to cover the stars and politicians as they arrived in the Booksellers Hall of the White House.
Judy Kutz of The Hill and Trevor Hunnicutt of Reuters were among the reporters on hand, and both quizzed Leguizamo when he arrived with his wife Justine.
Kurtz asked which politician Leguizamo would like to portray, and Hunnicutt asked about the president’s chances with Latino voters. From Kurtz’s pool report:
Actor John Leguizamo spoke about lending his support to President Biden and said he would be hitting the campaign trail again in 2024, “Oh yeah, definitely. It must be done.”
Asked if he thought Biden would do well with Latino voters in next year’s presidential race, Leguizamo said, “Yes, I think he is. I think he’s doing the right things, which is getting Latin consultants and talking to Latin experts who will tell him how to address us, and make the effort. If you make the effort, we will be there, but you have to make the effort. I think he’s doing all that — him and Kamala Harris as well.”
Is there a lawmaker who Leguizamo would like to play? Leguizamo replied with a smile, “Schumer.”
Told that Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) is among the night’s guests, Leguizamo said, “Yeah I know I’ll ask him, ‘Can I play you? Is it alright?’”
Leguizamo was one of several hundred high-octane guests for the state dinner, a guest list that included the members of The B-52s, who were originally scheduled to perform. They were scrubbed in favor of instrumental music due to the situation in the Middle East.
