Ex-Trump Lawyer Bulldozes MAGA Claim That Biden Was Behind Trump’s NY Case: ‘One of the Most Ridiculous Things I’ve Heard’

Former President Donald Trump, his attorney Will Scharf, and countless others in his orbit have insisted President Joe Biden was truly behind his prosecution in Manhattan criminal court. Both one of the former president’s ex-attorneys dismissed that claim as “ridiculous.”

In an interview with Rev. Al Sharpton on MSNBC’s PoliticsNation Saturday, attorney Joe Tacopina — who was due to represent Trump in his New York criminal trial, but quit the defense team earlier this year — completely dismissed the idea that Biden pulled the strings on his former client’s prosecution.

“I understand there’s a political motivation to a lot of what’s going on in our country today, and everyone wants to sort of paint a broad brush,” Tacopina said. “And, you know, ‘this is a political vendetta,’ and that’s a ‘weaponization of the justice system.’ This is a state case. This is different than the Jack Smith cases, OK? This is not a federal prosecution. Joe Biden or anyone from his Justice Department have absolutely zero to do with the Manhattan District Attorney’s office. They have no jurisdiction over him. They have no context. They have no control over him. So to say that Joe Biden brought this case is one of the most ridiculous things I’ve heard. We know that’s not the case. And even even Trump’s lawyers know that’s not the case.”

Sharpton played a clip of Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) claiming the New York case is an example of Biden weaponizing the justice system. Tacopina was blunt in his response.

“Tim Scott is someone I used to respect,” Tacopina said. “But I sort of lost a lot of respect from what I just heard, because he sounded so uneducated, unintelligent, and made no sense at all to say that.”
