Fox’s Bret Baier Mentioned Press Pool Once After WHCA Bombshell — To Praise Trump

Fox News anchor Bret Baier mentioned the White House press pool once after the Trump administration’s bombshell announcement — but it was to gush about President Donald Trump taking more questions from them than former President Joe Biden did.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced Tuesday that Trump would be seizing control of the rotation and deciding which outlets cover the president’s movements — an obligation historically reserved for the White House Correspondents Association.

The move drew widespread condemnation, including from Fox News Senior White House correspondent Jacqui Heinrichon X/Twitter. Heinrich, a WHCA board member, was not tapped to comment on the bombshell on the air.

On Tuesday night’s edition of Fox News Channel’s Special Report, Baier — who reposted some of Heinrich’s comments on his X/Twitter account — also did not discuss the development on the air.

But he did mention the press pool at the end of the show — to praise Trump for his Q&A sessions with them in impromptu settings to which only the pool has access. Wall Street Journal reporter Annie Linskey concurred:

BRET BAIER: Last thing. New York Post has it. Thousand plus questions answered by President Trump in the first month.

ANNIE LINSKEY: I mean that–.

BRET BAIER: That is– President Biden. His first month had 141 questions answered.

I mean, a thousand plus! No wonder it feels like seven years!

ANNIE LINSKEY: I know, I mean, just hearing that statistic, I am living it. So I believe that there’s no part of me that has any doubt in that data, because, I mean, if you just think about it today, the president, there’s a press briefing and then the president brought the pool in, including the Wall Street Journal, into the Oval Office for 45 minutes. So he’s taking a lot of questions.

BRET BAIER: All right. Panel, thanks so much.
