Attorney George Conway popped up at John Bolton’s Maryland home on Friday amid an FBI raid to offer his legal take.

Conway, a longtime vocal critic of President Donald Trump, told the media on Friday that he was at Bolton’s house because he lives nearby and wanted to see what was happening.

No one was placed under arrest during the raid. It is not entirely known what was behind the raid, but officers said it was court-sanctioned. It’s reportedly part of a “national security probe.”

“I’ve driven by here thousands of times, not thousands, but a lot because my daughters have friends here in Bethesda and they go to school here and I know where John Bolton is. Everybody knows where John Bolton is because this is a main drag, especially for commuters. I was a few minutes away so I thought, wow, I just want to see what’s going on,” Conway said in video posted by the Daily Mail’s Philip Nieto.

Conway, the former husband of Trump ally Kellyanne Conway, added that the raid could be related to classified documents and took a shot at Trump, noting the president faced his own FBI raid three years ago over classified documents.

He said:

We’ll have to see what the search warrant affidavit says. I mean, if he’s got classified documents, my view is, well, he has to answer for that if he’s got them — the way Trump should have. On the other hand, if it’s just about harassing because he said uncomplimentary things about Trump, many of them in his book about Trump’s mental capacity and ability to understand foreign affairs and very simple things, that’s not legit. And that would seem to be the real concern. That Donald Trump has since he doesn’t clearly, he clearly doesn’t care about what’s classified and what isn’t.

Trump critics like Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE) have already begun suggesting the raid is tied to Bolton’s public criticism of Trump’s foreign policy efforts, specifically negotiating a long-term peace deal between Russia and Ukraine.

Asked whether he’s spoken to Bolton, Conway said he’s “not friendly” with Trump’s former national security advisor.

“I know John, I haven’t spoken to him today,” he said. “I’m not friendly with him, but I’ve spoken to him on occasion, we’re acquainted.”
