Krysten Sinema Whacks Biden Over ‘Crisis’ on Border: ‘This is a Crisis, We All Know it’
Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) came out swinging at President Joe Biden on Thursday over his handling of the United States’ border with Mexico.
“The reality is that this is a crisis,” Sinema said in an interview with KTAR News, a radio station in Arizona. “We all know it. And federal government must do more to address this surge of migrants who are coming to the border with increasing numbers each year. Like, you probably noticed, but we’re looking at numbers this year that are the highest number of crossings that we’ve seen in 20 years in Arizona. So, we really are seeing how this problem has exacerbated and gotten worse.”
Biden’s administration has broadly declined to refer the border situation as a “crisis.” White House press secretary Jen Psaki said in an interview the same day that it was a “huge challenge,” but “wasn’t really a crisis.” However, the message has been undermined by some congressional Democrats, including Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV), who has also insisted that “crisis” is an accurate description.
Customs and Border Protection reported apprehending an average of nearly 6,000 migrants attempting to cross the border illegally daily in the month of April. The agency reported apprehending 171,700 in March, including 18,000 unaccompanied children, an all-time high.
