Putin Grins as He Meets Trump Envoy Steve Witkoff at the Kremlin Ahead of New Deadline

Russian President Vladimir Putin sported an ear-to-ear grin as he met with President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff at the Kremlin on Wednesday ahead of new talks to end the war in Ukraine.

The pair was seen shaking hands during the Moscow meet-up, but details of the meeting were not revealed, according to the Associated Press.

The meeting came just days before Trump’s imposed deadline to end the Russia war with Ukraine, or face additional sanctions and tariffs.

Trump later posted on Truth Social: “My Special Envoy, Steve Witkoff, just had a highly productive meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Great progress was made! Afterwards, I updated some of our European Allies. Everyone agrees this War must come to a close, and we will work towards that in the days and weeks to come. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

The president has grown increasingly impatient with Putin. Last month, he accused the Russian strongman of repeatedly misleading him and “throwing a lot of bullshit at us.”

After originally imposing a 50-day deadline for Russia to lay down their arms, he moved it to Friday, Aug. 8.

While Trump has touted the peace deals he’s been involved with since taking office, the Ukraine-Russia conflict — which he promised to resolve on Day 1 of his presidency — remains his toughest nut to crack.

The president has repeatedly blamed the war on his predecessor, Joe Biden, and claimed it never would have happened on his watch.

Last month, audio emerged in which Trump said he had threatened to “bomb the shit out of Moscow” if Russia ever invaded Ukraine.
