President Donald Trump claimed in a Thursday Truth Social post that Democrats are behind the leaking of an early intelligence assessment downplaying the effectiveness of strikes against Iran’s nuclear sites.
In his post, the president called for Democrats to be “prosecuted” for the leak. It was previously revealed that there is an FBI probe looking into the leak.
“The Democrats are the ones who leaked the information on the PERFECT FLIGHT to the Nuclear Sites in Iran. They should be prosecuted!” Trump wrote.
The president has been lashing out at media outlets like CNN and The New York Times over their reports on a leaked intelligence assessment that concluded the strikes on Iran over the weekend set back their nuclear programs by months, rather than years as Trump and his officials have been saying.
The president immediately called the reports “fake news” and insisted Iran’s nuclear sites were “obliterated.” Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth reiterated that statement in a Thursday press conference where he dismissed quick initial reports as “almost always wrong, almost always incomplete.”
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt similarly blasted reports downplaying the effectiveness of the mission, claiming in a separate press conference on Thursday that only “bits and pieces” of the initial report were leaked to the media in an attempt to push a “false narrative.”
Trump is so upset with reporting about his strikes that he called for CNN national security correspondent Natasha Bertrand, who reported on the early assessment, to be “fired like a dog.” Trump accused CNN and others of “demeaning” the pilots behind the attack, something CNN anchors and reporters immediately denied. CNN responded by saying they fully stand behind Bertrand’s reporting.
