Trump Lashes Out at Brian Williams 4 Days After News He’s Leaving NBC — Here’s the Clip That Set Trump Off 9 Years Ago
Former President Donald Trump lashed out at anchor Brian Williams over the anchor’s departure from NBC — a full four days after that news broke.
With the timeliness of a distracted carrier pigeon and the reflexes of an intoxicated brontosaurus, Trump delivered his reaction to Williams’ departure Saturday afternoon in one of those statements-that-look-like-tweets-but-aren’t that have been his primary mode of communication now that he is banned from most social media platforms.
In the statement, Trump was gracious as ever:

Statement by Donald J. Trump, 45th President of the United States of America
Looks like Lyin’ Brian Williams is leaving ratings-challenged MSNBC to search for new employment. Never had the credibility to do what he is doing after he was caught lying about his involvement in a fake military airplane skirmish. He later confessed, it never happened. He’s tired of his current show and they’re obviously tired of him—won’t be missed!
News of Williams’ departure broke Tuesday night.
“Following much reflection, and after 28 years with the company, I have decided to leave NBC upon the completion of my current contract in December,” said Williams in a statement on Tuesday. “I have been truly blessed. I have been allowed to spend almost half of my life with one company. NBC is a part of me and always will be.”
Williams, as Trump noted, left NBC Nightly News in 2015 after it was revealed he had embellished a story about his helicopter taking fire in Iraq in 2003.
The veteran newsman became a frequent target of Trump’s barbs after Williams apparently “took a shot at” him during a newscast on Election Night in 2012, according to a post from Mr. Trump’s now-suspended Twitter feed.
“This is, as they say, out there and getting an airing tonight, so you might as well know about it. Donald Trump, who has driven well past the last exit to relevance and veered into something closer to irresponsible here, is tweeting tonight. Here’s a sampling,” Williams said, then proceeded to read Trump’s tweets.
