President Donald Trump is considering naming the new $300 million White House Ballroom after himself, according to senior administration officials who spoke to ABC News.
The sources told ABC News that officials are already referring to it as “The President Donald J. Trump Ballroom,” and that the name “will likely stick.”
The White House played down the speculation Friday, with a spokesperson telling Fox News Digital, “Any announcement made on the name of the ballroom will come directly from President Trump himself, and not through anonymous and unnamed sources.”
When asked about the potential ballroom naming on Thursday, Trump replied, “I won’t get into that now.”
On Friday, White House Aide Stephen Miller defended the project as all part of Trump’s plan to beautify Washington, D.C.
“The East Wing, which reportedly is not part of the White House — it is not part of the residence — it was a cheaply-built add-on structure in the mid-20th century, which houses offices, is not a residence, nobody lives there — is badly in need of refurbishment, repair, and renovation,” Miller told Fox News on Friday.
He added that “very importantly, President Trump is making sure it is in the neoclassical design around which our nation’s architecture has long been directed. Up until again recently, where we begin seeing these modern art structures, these brutalist structures, and these many other buildings that have been horrible and depressing to look at.”
Trump posted to Truth Social Monday, “For more than 150 years, every President has dreamt about having a Ballroom at the White House to accommodate people for grand parties, State Visits, etc. I am honored to be the first President to finally get this much-needed project underway — with zero cost to the American Taxpayer! The White House Ballroom is being privately funded by many generous Patriots, Great American Companies, and, yours truly. This Ballroom will be happily used for Generations to come!”
