WATCH: Bill Maher Mocks Trump Assassination Attempt — And People Who Said It Was ‘Staged’ — In New Special
Comic, pundit, and podcast host Bill Maher mocked the assassination attempt on President-elect Donald Trump — and also those who wildly speculated that it was “staged.”
Maher just released his 13th HBO comedy special Bill Maher: Is Anyone Else Seeing This?, which debuted on Friday night and is streaming on Max. He’s also the host of HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher and the Club Random With Bill Maher Podcast. The comic is a frequent and vociferous critic of Trump, but also trains his sights on President Joe Biden, the Democrats, and what he sees as an overly “woke” liberal movement.
In one clip, Maher referenced the July 13, 2024 assassination attempt that left him bloodied and Trump supporter and former firefighter Corey Comperatore dead as he shielded his family.
Maher derided the event as “that day he had his ear pierced” — but then also mocked people who speculated or out-and-out claimed that the attempt was “staged”:
Well, you got to give Trump this. I mean, the skill at performance art. Remember that day he had his ear pierced.
And by the way, if you think there’s only conspiracy theorists on the right, I can’t tell you how many people came up to me around that time, “Bill. Don’t you think that assassination attempt was staged?”.
Staged? You know–. Walk me through how you could stage a bullet hitting just the tip of your ear from 500ft away.
Yeah. Shoot at my head. I trust you. But just graze me just a little. It’s a new shirt. I don’t want to get a lot of, you know.
And who to perform this incredible feat of marksmanship? McLovin from the movie Superbad, so–.
There was also a second event in September in which a man was arrested near Trump’s golf course in the middle of an alleged assassination plot.
