‘Whoa! I Almost Wanted To Buy It—’ Biden Mocks Trump Bible In Blistering Abortion Rights Speech

President Joe Biden drew laughs from a friendly crowd by mocking former President Donald Trump’s $60 Bible during a speech on reproductive rights.

Biden and the Democrats are pushing hard to keep abortion front and center, even as Trump has tried to both take credit for ending Roe v. Wade and also claim the issue is no longer relevant nationally.

The president was in Tampa, Florida Tuesday to give a speech on reproductive freedom and to rip Florida’s six-week abortion ban. But he also found time to slip in a shot at the Bible Trump has been selling along with country star Lee Greenwood:

THE PRESIDENT: Trump bragged how proud he was to get rid of Roe v. Wade over it — he took credit for it. He said there has to be “punishment” for women exercising their reproductive freedom.

AUDIENCE MEMBERS: Booo —

THE PRESIDENT: His words, not mine.

He described the Dobbs decision as a “miracle.” Maybe it’s coming from that Bible he’s trying to sell. (Laughter.) Whoa. I almost wanted to buy one just to see what the hell is in it. (Laughter.)

Folks, it was no miracle. It was a political deal to get rid of Roe v. — a deal. A political deal he made with the Evangelical base of the Republican Party to look past his moral char- — if they looked past his moral and character flaws in exchange for his commitment to appoint justices of the Supreme Court who would overturn Roe. Don’t think he’s making the deal right now with MAGA extremists to ban nationwide abortion in every single state, because he’s making it.

In January, Trump told Fox News, of ending Roe, “Nobody else was going to get that done but me, and we did it, and we did something that was a miracle.”

The end of Roe v. Wade has placed abortion on the ballot in many states this November, and resulted in Supreme Court cases like the one being heard Wednesday over emergency abortion care.
