‘You Blame Joe Biden?!’ CNN’s Kaitlan Collins Battles GOP Rep. Insisting Putin Wouldn’t Have Invaded Ukraine if Trump Were in Office
CNN’s Kaitlan Collins confronted a Republican congressman about whether he blames the Russia-Ukraine war on former President Joe Biden on Monday.
In a heated exchange on CNN’s The Source, Collins pressed Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) about who is ultimately responsible for the conflict.
“Who do you blame for that war?” Collins asked.
The congressman seemed to place the lion’s share of the blame on former President Biden.
“I mean, look, the war started under Joe Biden’s watch,” Roy said. “He destroyed our energy policies. He empowered Russia. He he was siding with Iran and China, which was also helping Russia.”
Collins was incredulous.
“But you blame Joe Biden for the war?!” Collins asked.
“This all started under Joe Biden!” Roy replied.
“But who started the war?!” Collins asked.
“My point is that war wouldn’t have started if Donald Trump is in the White House, if we have a strong hand in the White House,” Roy said. “Vladimir Putin does not go into Ukraine. That’s just the truth. We had a weak hand in the White House. Joe Biden destroyed our energy policy.”
“That’s that’s your analysis and your view,” Collins interjected. “But you don’t know that for sure.”
“All I know is there weren’t a lot of wars getting started under President Trump,” Roy said. “In his four years, what war started under President Trump?”
“My point of the answer to that question was that Putin started this war,” Collins said. “And Russia started this war. Do you disagree with that?”
“Putin obviously invaded Ukraine, but the reason that happened was because of weakness from the United States,” Roy responded.
Roy’s position seems to reflect that of the president’s. In a Feb. 21 interview on Fox News radio, Trump said the war started because “Biden said the wrong things, Zelensky said the wrong things.”
