Carville Knocks Pete Buttigieg For Admitting Biden ‘Maybe’ Shouldn’t Have Run: ‘Well, F**k, Say Something When It Meant Something!’

Democratic strategist James Carville knocked Pete Buttigieg and other Democrats retroactively criticizing former President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign.

On his Politics War Room podcast with co-host Al Hunt, Carville told former officials detailing Biden’s decline in office that their revelations have little value now compared to when Biden was still in office. CNN’s Jake Tapper and Axios’ Alex Thompson have authored a new book suggesting Biden’s stamina was a major concern for White House officials. Among the book’s revelations are that the former president did not recognize George Clooney at a 2024 fundraiser. Clooney would famously be one of the first major voices to call for him to step down after his debate with President Donald Trump in June 2024.

Carville called Biden “one of the better presidents,” but argued he cost himself a “glorious retirement” by not stepping away from reelection in March 2023.

“It’s going to be one of the great tragedies of all time,” Carville said in agreement with Hunt.

The once advisor to former President Bill Clinton then knocked Democrats speaking out publicly in criticism of Biden’s reelection campaign, singling out Buttigieg. The former transportation secretary was asked this week if the Democratic Party would have been better off if Biden hadn’t run for reelection at all, he said, “Maybe, you know, right now, with the benefit of hindsight, I think most people would agree that is the case.”

“Of course, all of the people who never said anything, you know, now Pete Buttigieg is saying, well, it would have been better if he hadn’t run for reelection, well, fuck, say something when it meant something,” Carville said in response. “But now in retrospect, everybody’s, oh well, shit, we should have known.”

Hunt then blasted Biden’s recent public appearances, telling him to accept retirement and stop making a “fool of himself.”

“You are making a fool of yourself. You’re planning some kind of counter to this Tapper book. That is the worst thing in the world because you know what? You’re not up to it right now, Joe,” he said. “You once were, you’re not now. Please, just go and, you know, take comfort in your friends and your family.”
