Ex-Fox Newser Stephen Hayes Accuses Mollie Hemingway of Trump Flip-Flop — From America First to MAGA ‘Cheerleading’

Former Fox News commentator Stephen Hayes accused current network contributor Mollie Hemingway of a major flip flop on President Donald Trump and his strikes on Iran.

Hayes, the co-founder of The Dispatch, joined Alisyn Camerota and Dave Briggs on the Sanity podcast this week where his former network — and particularly its treatment of Trump — became a topic of discussion. Hayes accused Hemingway of wanting to simply be part of the group “cheerleading” Trump, pointing to her views on the president’s strikes on Iran, which caused a split in MAGA world between voices like Tucker Carlson and Mark Levin.

“It’s interesting to watch this sort of recalibrations from some of our former colleagues. I think you have people like Brian Kilmeade, for instance, who’s always been pretty hawkish, and I think actually knows foreign policy and national security better than most people give him credit for. I think he actually studies it. He cares about it and pays attention to it. And he’s been pretty consistent. The more interesting case is somebody like Mollie Hemingway, who used to be on the Special Report panel when I was doing it, and she’s still there,” Hayes said.

He called out Hemingway over tweets earlier this month regarding Trump and Iran.

Hayes said:

She put out a series of tweets, maybe two, three weeks ago, before Trump got the United States involved in the way that he did. And it was a warning. And she said, if you engage, you, Donald Trump engage in even escalating this at all, if you take Israel’s side, if you get the United states involved, if you endorse their escalation, it’ll be the end of your movement, the end to your presidency, you know, sort of you’ll be finished and it will be a betrayal of everything you’ve said. I’m paraphrasing so those are not direct quotes, but they’re pretty close. And she has very quickly, this is to your point, Dave, reaccommodated herself. So this all happens. And she says, well, it is a good thing that we did some damage to Iran’s nuclear program. And aren’t we lucky to have someone with the wisdom and judgment of a Donald Trump at this moment, even if we’d been skeptical, just on and on because they ultimately just want to be cheerleading Trump.

On June 12, Hemingway sent out a series of tweets warning Trump that he could be making a major policy mistake by joining in on the escalating fighting between Israel and Iran.

“It would cost him real polling support that would be permanent. It would make everything the White House is trying to accomplish that much harder and would be a powerful gift to his political enemies who still seek to destroy him and the movement he leads,” she wrote on X.

Hemingway has continued arguing against further escalation in Iran, particularly a “land war” that would involve deploying troops, but she has expressed faith in Trump’s administration over past administrations when it comes to foreign policy.

“After decades of horrible foreign policy, many Americans are worried striking Iran’s nuclear sites could lead to a land war. It’s a completely legitimate concern and we pray it won’t happen. But also remember President Trump and his team are not the Biden, Obama, Bush teams,” she wrote.

Hayes resigned from Fox in 2021, objecting at the time to “irresponsible” voices on the air like Carlson. Carlson has since parted ways with Fox and started his own network.
