Former Trump White House lawyer Ty Cobb called the president “clearly insane” and argued his last night social media posts only further prove he’s mentally “gone.”
Cobb joined Acosta on his podcast The Jim Acosta Show on Tuesday evening where he blasted his former client, arguing his “screeds” on Iran and more in the dead of night on Truth Social highlight “the level of his insanity and depravity.”
“It’s not a surprise that we’re in this much trouble. It’s not a surprise given the fact that the cabinet will not invoke the 25th Amendment for a man who’s clearly insane. And this war highlights that. And these screeds that come out nightly, at 2 a.m. or 4 a.m. or whatever time Trump decides to vent without oversight, it highlights the level of his insanity and depravity,” Cobb told Acosta.
“You think he’s just gone?” Acosta asked.
“I think he’s gone,” Cobb confirmed.
“And he makes it obvious every day,” Acosta added.
Cobb served as a special counsel to the president in 2017 and 2018, helping him navigate his response to an investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election where Trump defeated Hillary Clinton. He’s since become a vocal critic of the president. In another recent episode of Acosta’s podcast, Cobb called out his former client’s “demented” behavior and the media’s coverage of that behavior.
“I mean and particularly when you see this, you see this administration cracking down on dissent in a way that is, you know un-American,” he said. “I mean, one of the problems we have in the press, I think these days is, you know they talk about Trump’s conduct as though it’s somehow part of a continuum. It’s not part of the continuum. It is a, you know, demented narcissistic rupture in our society.”
