CNN Anchor Laura Coates Shares Touching Moment Between Her Son and Milwaukee Bucks Star Giannis Antetokounmpo at Christmas Game
This year’s Christmas became an unforgettable one for CNN anchor Laura Coates when Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo gifted her son with souvenirs after the game.
On Tuesday’s episode of Laura Coates Live, the anchor revealed that she brought her son to New York’s Madison Square Garden on Monday to see the Bucks take on the Knicks. The two had floor seats right behind the scorers’ table.
Antetokounmpo, she added, is her son’s favorite player.
“Now for the teenager in me, who wore the number 3 in honor of John Starks, it was a dream come true to just be inside of the The Garden,” Coates said. “And as mommy, I couldn’t take my eyes off my son watching the game, ‘twinning’ in a matching jersey with his favorite player. For me, that was enough. Hell, it was more than enough because who am I to be on the floor of a Knicks game?”
Coates then mentioned her son giving high fives to the players as they went to table to check into game. He even managed to touch one of the players’ towels, and she said she thought he’d “float away” with excitement.
Those moments would pale in comparison to what would unfold after the game when Antetokounmpo actually waved them onto the court.
“He took off his game shoes, he signed them, and he handed them to my son,” Coates said as her video of the moment was played on the show. “And he even wished him a merry Christmas. And you can see my son. He’s grabbing his head, trying to even process his moment.”
After signing the shoes, Antetokounmpo took a photo with Coates’ son.
Later that night, she said, he asked to see the photos to make sure he hadn’t just dreamt it.
“And you know what?” she said. “I feel like I did, too.”
