‘FIGHT OF THE DECADE’: Boxing Fans Bask in Heavyweight Title Match for the Ages, As Tyson Fury KOs Deontay Wilder in 11 Round Thriller

Boxing fans are celebrating as Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder put on a show for the ages Saturday night in Las Vegas — with the former successfully defending his heavyweight championship in an 11 round thriller.
It was a see-saw battle as both men alternately appeared to be on the cusp of victory, and the brink of defeat at multiple points. Fury appeared to have Wilder’s measure in the third round — as Wilder suffered a knockdown and was fortunate to make it to the bell. But then, miraculously, he put Fury on the canvas twice in the fourth round — and it was Fury who was desperate to survive.
Fury made it to his corner and largely got the better of the action from that point. But Wilder kept coming and staggered his foe several more times.
Ultimately, though, Fury sealed the deal with a knockdown in the 10th, and a brutal TKO in the 11th on a crunching right hand shot. Referee Russell Mora waved off the bout immediately, and Fury won for the second straight time in the trilogy between the foes — with the first match having been declared a draw.
Boxing has been on the ropes of late. It has been plague by highly controversial scorecards, business clashes which have prevented the best matches from being made, and dangerous gimmick bouts involving aging fighters. But for one night in Las Vegas, the sport’s ills were cast aside — as fans celebrated a fight that will go down in history:

You follow boxing for years—dozens of good fights that never happen, hundreds of fishy decisions, championship belts that don’t make any sense—for nights like tonight. This is what you’re waiting for. It’s all worth it.
