Bret Baier Hopes To Be “Appointment Viewing For Political Junkies”

Baier says the mentality of Fox News in general has maintained over the years, despite its long-standing ratings dominance. “We still have this come-from-behind attitude, even though we’ve been #1 for a long time,” he says. “We’ve always been a little scrappy, and I think we still are.”

Hume recently told Politico: “I’d like to be Bret Baier. He’s an incredibly attractive, exceedingly able, totally honorable guy.”

Here’s Baier’s reaction:

I was chuckling. For all the years that I wanted to be Brit Hume, to hear him say he wanted to be Bret Baier…I don’t know about that. We’ll see the next time we’re on the golf course and he takes a few bucks from me….He’s been a fantastic friend and my mentor, so it’s incredibly flattering for him to say that.

There’s another thing that separates Baier from his predecessor – an embrace of new media. Below is the web extra video from last week (he does it every Wednesday) and you can follow him on Twitter here:

Can Baier be “appointment viewing,” as Beck, O’Reilly and others certainly are? Possibly – but for different reasons. As he continues to prove to the FNC haters that Fox News puts out objective journalism programs, he attracts a whole new audience – and inevitably many of the Beck fans who will stick around after their favorite host says “Goodnight, America.”
