Brit Hume: If GOP Loses FL Gov Race, The Defeat Could Be ‘Laid at the Feet of Donald Trump’
Fox News senior political analyst Brit Hume made the case Tuesday night that a Republican defeat in the Florida governor race could be blamed on President Donald Trump.
In a race too close to call, Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) is up by the slimmest of margins against Tallahassee mayor Andrew Gillum (D). And since DeSantis fully embraced Trumpism, Hume insisted the the president could be responsible for the congressman’s defeat.
“It’s obviously important because it has presidential implications as far as it’s such a pivotal state. This is a race where if there’s one race if the if the Republicans lose could be laid at the feet of Donald Trump,” Hume told the panel. “Republicans had a very strong candidate Adam Putnam, who is in the primary against DeSantis… He was a member of the House for a number of years and indeed a member of the leadership considered one of the most promising young politicians in the state. Experienced, but young, still very boyish, very attractive. Widespread belief in Florida that he would win easily and Trump threw his support behind DeSantis, DeSantis won the primary. And it looks tonight that he might just lose to a very leftwing, although a very appealing personality in Gillum from Tallahassee. That race was swung by Donald Trump to DeSantis, who’s now behind.”
It’s worth noting that since Hume made his remarks, DeSantis has gained a slight lead over Gillum. But the race is far from over.
