Dem Congressman Takes On Tucker Carlson in Heated Mueller Exchange: ‘Let This Guy Do His Job’
During tonight’s broadcast of Fox News’ Tucker Carlson Tonight, Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (D-NY) tangled with host Tucker Carlson over Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s probe and Carlson’s concern that the investigation has careened off the rails. And the Democratic lawmaker more than held his own against the pugnacious conservative commentator.
After Carlson began the interview by asking Maloney if he’d be comfortable with a permanent investigation into his life and claiming the Mueller probe has now become about the president’s sex life, Maloney called on Carlson to let the special counsel complete his job.
“What job is he doing?!” Carlson exclaimed. “This is an argument not against the investigation, it’s against what the investigation apparently has become.”
Maloney pointed out that we are less than a year into the investigation and there have already been 22 indictments, five guilty pleas and 100 felony charges, adding that Mueller also indicted Russians over election meddling.
“Indicting 13 Russians for interfering with the election is exactly what he was charged to do,” Maloney declared. “I’m glad they were indicted, I hope you are.”
“Oh whatever, whatever,” Carlson shot back, stating that none of them will go to trial and that it’s “not even clear” what they did “that threatened our democracy.”
The two went on to tangle over the FBI raiding Trump attorney Michael Cohen’s office and hotel room as the feds received a search warrant after a referral from Mueller. Maloney continually pointed out that he didn’t really care about the Stormy Daniels affair while Carlson kept prodding at him to say he was uncomfortable with what was happening to Cohen.
Eventually, Carlson offered up an idea — a permanent office of special counsel that would float above the Justice Department that would have no budget or timetable and could investigate any sitting lawmaker or official. Maloney called this a “terrible idea” informing Carlson that there is currently a good process in place.
“You ask for a bipartisan process, you’re getting one,” the New York lawmaker said. “Let this guy do his job.”
Carlson responded to this by asking Maloney why they don’t just let Meuller do his job into the next administration and also look into Congress since they shouldn’t have anything to worry about as they have nothing to hide.
After Maloney ended the interview by stating that “we should finish” the probe and see it to its end, Carlson snarked that he feels “a lot safer now that Paul Manafort is in jail” before bringing on frequent guest Mark Steyn.
