Fox & Friends Openly Discuss What a Trump Conviction, House Arrest and Possible Jail Time Would Look Like
The curvy couch of Fox & Friends featured something unique Wednesday morning — an open discussion of former President Donald Trump’s possible conviction, house arrest, and/or jail time.
At issue is the looming jury decision in the five-week-long trial over alleged business fraud and election interference regarding Trump’s hush money payment to Stormy Daniels, the closing arguments of which were just completed late Tuesday.
The co-hosts of Fox & Friends discussed a recent Washington Post article titled “If Trump were convicted in his hush money trial, here’s what he could face next.” The subhead explains, “A guilty verdict for Trump in the New York trial would mean a mix of routine court processing and extraordinary logistical considerations, legal experts say.”
Ainsley Earhardt referenced the article, reporting that the crimes at issue are “punishable by 16 months to four years,” which led her to question if Trump would go to prison. “The legal experts say probably not; that’s unlikely,” she continued. If he did, the Secret Service would have to protect him for the rest of his life because he was a sitting president. And the question is, would they allow him—if it’s home confinement—could he continue to campaign?”
Lawrence Jones was quick to defend Trump, suggesting that only “one in a million” think Trump is guilty, before attacking New York law enforcement and judicial systems for allegedly ignoring “carjacking” and “pushing people into the subway” in lieu of prosecuting the former president.
Brian Kilmeade stepped up the net to break it all down, laying out the many variables under consideration by Judge Juan Merchan if Trump is found guilty, saying, “So how could he possibly be looking at the prison? If precedent means anything here, especially when you’re still trying to figure out the unprecedented charges against a former prisoner.”
The conversation continued until Steve Doocy summed it up by suggesting that a guilty conviction for Trump would most certainly help the former president’s re-election bid. He pointed to how his poll numbers dramatically rose following DA Alvin Bragg’s initial indictments from April 2023.
The fact that Fox & Friends, the most watched cable news morning show that has long had a pro-Trump conservative bent, is openly discussing what a Trump conviction and jail time looks like? That sound you hear is the Overton Window getting more prominent for a loyal Trump base of Fox News viewers.
