Fox News Host Says Trump Made Jimmy Kimmel ‘Unfireable’ Even If ‘Three People Are Watching’
Fox News host Jessica Tarlov argued President Donald Trump has essentially made Jimmy Kimmel “unfireable” following the late-night comedian’s suspension over comments on the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
On Wednesday’s The Five, Tarlov said Trump’s public comments on Kimmel’s return to his show make it “clear as day” that the entire situation boiled down to “government pressure.” Tarlov cited FCC Chair Brendan Carr’s public comments on Kimmel just hours before ABC announced his “indefinite suspension.”
“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them,” Kimmel said on his show.
Critics were quick to object to Kimmel’s comment, pointing to Utah officials saying Tyler Robinson — now facing a murder charge over Kirk’s death — was “indoctrinated” in far-left “ideology” in the years leading up to the Kirk shooting.
“Frankly, when you see stuff like this, I mean look, we can do this the easy way or the hard way,” Carr said in response to Kimmel. “These companies can find ways to change conduct and take action, frankly, on Kimmel, or there’s going to be additional work for the FCC ahead.”
Kimmel’s show continues to be protested by broadcast groups Sinclair and Nexstar.
Tarlov red-flagged Trump’s comments about Kimmel’s eventual return and argued it adds weight to the argument that Trump has an “enemies list.”
“I can’t believe ABC Fake News gave Jimmy Kimmel his job back. The White House was told by ABC that his Show was cancelled!” Trump complained in a Truth Social post, adding, “Let’s see how we do.”
Tarlov argued Trump targeting Kimmel only makes his position at ABC safer as he’s become a “symbol” and “lightning rod” in First Amendment debates.
She said:
Brendan Carr tried to backtrack when he said, “oh, I didn’t really mean to sound like the mafioso” — as Ted Cruz put it and did the little accent — and as always Donald Trump comes riding in and makes it clear as day that this was government pressure, posting on Truth Social before Jimmy Kimmel came out: “I can’t believe he has his job back. I think we’re going to test ABC out on this. Let’s see how we do. Last time I went after them they gave me $16 million. This one sounds even more lucrative.” In the process Trump has basically made Kimmel unfireable at this point. Disney, even if his ratings go down to three people watching it, will not be able to do it because now he has become the lightning rod, the symbol, the avatar for this fight about the First Amendment and government overreach and I think it’s important as well that we just saw before we came out here that it looks like Jim Comey is going to be indicted in a few days. Donald Trump on Truth Social: “let’s get rid of Erik Siebert because he doesn’t want to bring charges. We’ll get someone in there who will.” And lo and behold we’re checking off our enemies list it’s all part of the same puzzle.
Kimmel returned to his show this week, where he did not apologize for his comment, but got emotional addressing his Kirk comment, saying he was in no way making light of the 31-year-old’s death. The episode drew big ratings, pulling in more than six million viewers.
