Geraldo, Goldberg on O’Reilly: Mother Jones Using Journalism as ‘Political Weapon’

After his Talking Points Memo on the subject, Bill O’Reilly brought on Geraldo Rivera and Bernie Goldberg to further discuss Mother Jones‘ report on his war stories. And both Rivera and Goldberg stuck up for O’Reilly against the “defamation” on his reporting.

To Goldberg, it looked like Mother Jones is “using journalism as a weapon, a political weapon, to go after an enemy.” He argued that the magazine could have run this at any time, but only did so now because of Brian Williams, the mentality supposedly being “if one of ours goes down… then one of theirs… is gonna go down.”

Rivera found the whole thing to be “scary” and borderline McCarthyistic. O’Reilly said he’s grateful to have a show where he can “fight back,” unlike most people who are “smeared” online.

Rivera also had some pretty tough words for O’Reilly’s accusers:

“The vast majority of these accusers have never put themselves at risk at all in their professional careers. They sit in the safety of their mothers’ basements with their bitten fingernails on the computer attacking people they don’t agree with… It is absolutely the peril of the web.”
