Hannity on the Gina Haspel Confirmation Hearing: ‘A Lot of The Questioning’ Was ‘Beyond Insulting’
On Wednesday night, Sean Hannity defended President Trump‘s controversial CIA nominee Gina Haspel.
At her confirmation hearing before the Senate Intelligence Committee, Haspel faced intense scrutiny for overseeing a black site in Thailand where waterboarding was conducted on suspected terrorists and for the destruction of interrogation tapes.
The Fox News host began by saying Haspel “followed the law” and that “only three people were waterboarded,” which he noted aided the CIA in finding Osama bin Laden.
“I find a lot of the questioning today was beyond insulting for Ms. Haspel,” Hannity said.
Former Speaker Newt Gingrich agreed and cited Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), who argued to his colleagues if the committee can’t approve a nominee like Haspel, “who are we gonna confirm?”
“As you know, virtually every senior intelligence person has come out and said she’s the right choice,” Gingrich continued. “She’s a great professional. She has served the country as a patriot. And frankly, there is something a little disgusting about partisans who put their party above patriotism and who are willing to attack and smear those who literally have given their lives for the purpose of defending America.”
He continued on: “And I think you can go back and pick out Democrats by Democrat, people who I think really should be ashamed of the way in which they dealt with somebody who has spent her entire lifetime trying to keep us safe, including people who frankly behave in such a partisan way that, no wonder she is disgusted with them.”
