Jake Tapper Confronts RNC Chair: You Care About Comey Lying But Not Trump?

RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel paid a visit to Jake Tapper to tell him about how much the RNC loves James Comey (hint: not at all) and Tapper was not in the mood to take any prisoners.

Tapper talked about the new RNC website lyincomey.com, and began listing a “sample” of President Donald Trump‘s lies, including that vaccines cause autism and that Barack Obama was not born in this country.

“The Washington Post reported that President Trump has made more than 2400 false or misleading claims since inauguration,” Tapper said. “Why do you care about James Comey telling the truth but not President Trump?”

“The media has an obsession with covering President Trump,” McDaniel responded, to which Tapper replied dryly: “We cover the president, yes.”

“But they have covered him nonstop in probably the most negative way that we’ve seen for any president,” McDaniel clarified. “But [we] know that they’re going to bring James Comey on and we don’t think he’s gonna get the proper vetting. That is something we want to make sure that the facts get out.”

McDaniel mentioned that many Democrats are critical of Comey, which Tapper agreed on, but he also pointed to Trump praising Comey after he reopened the investigation into Hillary Clinton‘s emails.

“As he got to know James Comey and as he worked with him he concluded this is not somebody fit for office and fired him,” McDaniel explained. “The president came to a different conclusion once he worked with James Comey. I think this book is salacious. I think when you read it he discredits himself.”

“Have you read it?” Tapper asked.

“No,” said McDaniel.
