Jake Tapper: No Pundit Would Ask What Becoming a Grandfather Means for 2016 Chances

Would anyone be wondering what Hillary Clinton becoming a grandmother means for her 2016 presidential chances if she were a man? That’s one question CNN’s Jake Tapper posed to Arianna Huffington today when she joined him on The Lead.

“There are a lot of pundits talking about what this means for 2016,” Tapper said of Chelsea Clinton’s big news. “I have to be honest, I have a tough time imagining any potential male presidential candidate who is expecting a grandchild anyone talking about what it will mean for his 2016 race.”

Huffington didn’t quite take the bait, simply saying, “It could be worse. We could be asking ourselves whether their yet-to-be-born grandchild is going to be running for president in 2058 or not. At least we have not moved to that level of hypothetical speculation.” She neglected to point out that The Wire ran an article Thursday afternoon that pointed out the Clinton baby will be eligible to run for president in the 2052 election.

Tapper also asked Huffington to weigh in on the just-announced title for Hillary Clinton’s next book: Hard Choices. Tying it into her own new book about redefining success, she said she hoped the “hard choices” in Clinton’s book would not only concern the decisions she made as secretary of state but also “how she prioritizes her own self” and “how she deals with stress which, of course, could be incredibly rampant if she chooses to run for president.”
