James Carville Was So Horrified By Trump-Biden Debate He Turned To Self-Medicating and Country Music After Three Minutes
James Carville revealed to Piers Morgan that watching then-President Joe Biden’s sole debate in the 2024 presidential election was so “brutal” he turned to self-medicating and listening to country tunes.
On Friday’s Piers Morgan Uncensored, Carville said Biden’s debate with President Donald Trump was “too painful to watch.” Biden dropped out of the race soon after his debate performance was heavily criticized and Democrat allies began publicly questioning his mental and physical state. Carville was one of the earliest Democratic voices to call for Biden to drop his reelection bid.
“I turned on the TV, three minutes into the debate, I took two gummies and I started listening to country music. I knew this thing was not going well at all. It was too painful to watch. This is too brutal for even me to watch,” Carville told Morgan.
Check out the exchange below:
PIERS MORGAN: “Where were you when that debate happened? And what were you thinking as as it took place?”
JAMES CARVILLE: “I know exactly where I was. I was in Aspen, Colorado at Tina Brown’s Aspen Ideas Group, and I went back to the Jerome Hotel, and I turned on the TV and I was three minutes into the debate, I watched three minutes, I took two gummies, and I started listening to country music because I knew this was just going well at all. It was just too painful to watch. But I could show you that till this day I could walk back to the room I was in, in the hotel. And I texted the director of [my] documentary and I said, I’m taking two gummies and watching country music, this is too brutal for even me to watch.”
MORGAN: “Did you know in that moment that he was not going to be the candidate come the election?”
CARVILLE: “Yeah. I mean, it was pretty evident.”
