Jason Aldean Opens SNL Praising Our ‘Unbreakable’ Spirit After Vegas Shooting, Covers Tom Petty’s ‘I Won’t Back Down’

Country singer Jason Aldean opened tonight’s Saturday Night Live following the Las Vegas Massacre that took place at his concert.

“This week, we witnessed one of the worst tragedies in American history,” Aldean began. “Like everyone, I’m struggling to understand what happened that night and how to pick up the pieces and start to heal.”

He said that many people from children and parents to brothers and sisters are hurting and that they’re “part of our family.”

“I want to say to them, we hurt for you, and we hurt with you,” Aldean continued. “You can be sure that we are gonna walk through these tough times together, every step of the way. Because when America is at its best, our bond and our spirit- it’s unbreakable.”

Aldean went on to perform a cover of “I Won’t Back Down” by legendary rocker Tom Petty, who passed away earlier this week.
