Kevin McCarthy Pushes Wild Theory for Biden’s ‘Mean and Angry’ State of the Union Address

Former Speaker Kevin McCarthy appeared on Fox News to offer up a bizarre theory as to why President Joe Biden gave a “mean and angry” State of the Union address.

Conservatives have harshly criticized the Thursday night speech in front of a joint session of Congress. “At times it became uncomfortable watching him screaming and yelling and speeding through that speech,” said Fox News’ Sean Hannity. “I might call him ‘Jacked-Up Joe. And that’s being charitable. He sounded like a hyper-caffeinated, angry, old man.”

On Friday’s Jesse Watters Primetime on Fox News, the host asked McCarthy for his reaction.

“That was a pretty, just vicious political screed,” Jesse Watters said.

McCarthy responded by claiming that party bigwigs are aiming to replace Biden at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago this summer, and the president’s speech was designed to thwart their efforts:

It was. And you wanna know why? I mean, remember, they wrote this speech, they practiced this speech. And what did they wanna achieve by it? He wasn’t speaking to the nation. What he was really doing was speaking to his party. This was more about a convention. I think he was worried about Democrats removing him for the nominee.

That’s why he came out, he tried to show every Democrat, “You know, you gotta be tougher, you gotta be stronger.” And all he did was look mean and angry. That doesn’t bring in more votes, but he’s really playing– worried that the Democrats would take him off the ticket, worried about what’s going to happen in Chicago, and trying to solidify that instead of govern the nation.

Biden, 81, has faced questions about his age and fitness to govern. His likely opponent is former President Donald Trump, who is 77, though fewer voters are concerned about Trump’s age, according to polls. Trump is currently under indictment in four jurisdictions and tried to overturn the 2020 election, which he falsely claimed was rigged against him. Last year, Trump was found liable for sexual assault and this year was found liable for defaming his victim.
