Maddow: Yes, Things Are Bad, But Imagine if John McCain Was President…
Rachel Maddow closed her show Tuesday night sharing some perspective on the current lead-up to military strikes in Syria: yes, this may not be what Democrats were hoping from President Obama, but at least it’s not John McCain in the Oval Office. She asked, “How many wars do you think we would have been in in the last five years if John McCain had been elected in 2008 instead of Barack Obama?”
She showed off a few clips of McCain on the campaign trail in 2008, from his “Bomb Iran” sing-song moment to his declaration in the midst of a conflict between Russia and Georgia that “Today we are all Georgians.”
She showed a map titled “Could-Have-Been President John McCain’s Wars,” highlighting Iran, Russia, and Georgia, along with Libya (he backed intervention there as well), Iraq and Afghanistan (we may still be there today under President McCain), and, of course, Syria.
She concluded, “Oh my God do elections have consequences.”
