Morning Joe Mocks Trump’s ‘Valley Girl’ Retort To Putin On Ukraine: ‘Channeling Moon Unit There’

Morning Joe hosts were left laughing at the playback of former President Donald Trump’s bizarre rehashing of the time he supposedly warned Russian President Vladimir Putin not to invade Ukraine, a retelling co-host Willie Geist dubbed the conversation “Valley Girl diplomacy.”

Trump’s recounting of his attempt to project strength to Putin during his live streamed interview with X owner Elon Musk on Monday night fell flat with the Morning Joe crew, drawing ridicule instead.

Speaking of Ukraine and his pushback on Putin’s ambitions, Trump told Musk: “It was the apple of his eye, but I said, ‘Don’t ever do it, don’t ever. You can’t do it, Vladimir. You do it, it’s going to be a bad day. You cannot do it.’ I told him things that I’d do and he said, ‘No way,’ and I said, ‘Way.’”

After the clip rolled on Morning Joe, host Joe Scarborough and Geist could be seen laughing.

“Come on!” Scarborough said.

Geist quipped: “A little Valley Girl diplomacy,” referencing the 1982 song by Moon Unit Zappa.

Scarborough joined in: “Who was that, Zappa… which Zappa? Moon Unit Zappa? Valley Girl? Channeling Moon Unit there, pretty awesome.

“’No way!'” he added, simultaneously quoting Trump and Zappa’s lyrics.

Geist laughed: “He’s so proud of his relationship with Vladimir Putin, just won’t come off that position.”
