Morning Joe Rips Trump for ‘Bizarre’ Puerto Rico Visit: ‘A Basic Lack of Humanity’
Morning Joe took on President Donald Trump’s trip to Puerto Rico on Tuesday, and the panel ripped the president’s “bizarre behavior” and “disconnect from reality” during the brief visit to the hurricane ravaged U.S. territory.
Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski first tallied the worst moments from Trump’s short trip to the island, including when he shot three-pointers with paper towels into a crowd of victims and said Puerto Ricans were lucky they didn’t face a “real catastrophe.”
“If you watch that event from start to finish, it was truly bizarre,” Willie Geist said. “The tone and tenor of what was being said, and the way it was being said was celebratory. It was like they had finished a mission and they were there to celebrate and toast to it. Meanwhile, as you point out, there is devastation right outside the door where he was sitting.”
“Again, what he did throughout was inappropriate. It was bizarre behavior. It was celebratory — when this is an island that is struggling,” Scarborough added, before noting the display was indicative of a “basic lack of humanity,” similar to when Trump bashed Sen. John McCain at a rally last month.
On Trump’s quip about the U.S. budget taking a knock due to recovery efforts in Puerto Rico, Scarborough reminded viewers how much Trump’s tax cuts and his family’s private jet predilection will cost the country.
“This man is disconnected from reality, in terms of communication,” he noted.
The panel continued to marvel at Trump’s remarkable inability to show empathy, but concluded that as a 70-year-old man, he’s unlikely to change.
“This man is disconnected from the basic norms of social behavior,” Scarborough said.
