Obama Praises Mitt Romney in Boston: ‘He Did the Right Thing’ On Health Care Reform

Speaking before a supportive audience in Boston on Wednesday, President Barack Obama praised his former Republican presidential opponent, Mitt Romney, for signing a law that created a universal health care system in Massachusetts. Obama said that this law, which served as the model for the Affordable Care Act, is successful and Romney did “the right thing” by signing it.

“All the parade of horrible, the worst predictions about health care in Massachusetts, never came true,” Obama said. “They’re the same arguments that you’re hearing now.”

The president then turned to Romney and praised him for his efforts to reform the health care system.

“You know, Mitt Romney and I ran a long and spirited campaign against one another, but I’ve always believed that when he was governor, here in Massachusetts, he did the right thing on health care,” the president added.
