O’Reilly Challenges Colmes, Crowley on Fiery Rhetoric From the Left and Right: Why So Angry?

Bill O’Reilly took on both Alan Colmes and Monica Crowley on Tuesday night, challenging them over the heated rhetoric that pops up on both the left and right, saying that while he’s personally lost his temper a few times, it never came from a place of hate.

Colmes argued the phrase “holding something hostage” is a “typical expression” in situations like this. Crowley noted that heated rhetoric like this has been used “since the beginning of the republic,” but politicians “should be setting a higher standard” instead of getting down in the gutter with this fiery talk.

O’Reilly admitted that it’s not just liberals talking about suicide bombers and hostage-takers in the GOP using irresponsible language, telling Crowley that a lot of the heated rhetoric comes from the right because “they’re angry, they hate Obama.” Crowley argued it’s not personal, but O’Reilly pointed out that they keep calling him things like “communist” and “Muslim.”

O’Reilly admitted, “I’ve been guilty of being bombastic,” but made it clear that “I didn’t do it in a mean-spirited way,” it’s more about him venting his “frustration.”
