Pod Save America Co-Host Tells Fox News That Biden Pardons ‘Send a Terrible Message to the World’
Pod Save America co-host and former Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor criticized former President Joe Biden’s last-minute decision to pardon his family on Wednesday, claiming it sent “a terrible message to the world.”
After introducing Vietor to his show, Fox News host Jesse Watters asked, “What happened to the party? Whose idea was the coup?”
“Uh, there was no coup that I’m aware of,” replied Vietor. “January 6th was a long time ago and that didn’t result in Donald Trump staying in power.”
Watters pressed, “There was no coup with Joe Biden?”
“No. I mean, Joe Biden was– decided not to continue running,” Vietor claimed. “I think a lot of members of the party made the case to him that he was probably going to lose and lose bad.”
He continued:
Let’s talk about the pardons for a minute. I think Joe Biden’s decision to pardon his family sends a terrible message to the world. I think the presidential pardon power is far too expansive. I would love to see Congress come together and pass a constitutional amendment that says you cannot pardon yourself, you can’t pardon your family, you can’t pardon your staff. I think all your listeners would support that.
Vietor added, “But I also think it sends a terrible message to pardon people who beat the crap out of police officers on live TV. Daniel Ball assaulted a police officer and threw an explosive device at the Capitol entrance that detonated on 25 cops.”
“Yeah, they were definitely over-charged,” replied Watters. “But Trump ran on pardoning Jan 6’ers and the country voted for him, so in a way, the country voted for these pardons.”
Former Obama senior adviser David Axelrod also criticized Biden’s “egregious” decision to pardon his family this week.
“That was egregious. That 10 minutes before the inauguration, they announced that he’s pardoned members of his family,” said Axelrod. “If you’re gonna do it, do it, but don’t do it literally as you have one foot out the door so you don’t have to explain it or be accountable for it, and what they did was they gave Trump a gift because it fuzzied up the story, the J6 story for him.”
