Sunny Hostin Says Tim Scott as VP Would Not Help Trump With Black Voters: ‘He’s The Only African American Senator’ In The GOP ‘For A Reason’

The View co-host Sunny Hostin argued Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) will not help former President Donald Trump with Black voters if he’s chosen as his vice presidential running mate.

On Friday morning, The View discussed which candidate on Trump’s VP shortlist would be most effective at helping him gain support from new voters.

The panel hosts noted that Trump could push to expand his support amongst Hispanic and Black male voters by picking Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) or Scott as his VP. Hostin countered, saying Scott is “the only African American senator” in the Republican party “for a reason.”

“Just to speak for African American voters, if anyone thinks that Tim Scott is going to bring over a bunch of black men, they really need to get with it,” Hostin said. “Because Tim Scott is the only African American senator in the Republican Party for a reason.”

Alyssa Farah Griffin then interjected to point out that Democrats have only a few more African American lawmakers in the Senate than Republicans.

Hostin responded, “But we have people like Hakeem Jeffries. We have people like Cory Booker. We have people like Senator Kamala Harris, who’s now the vice president of the United States. We have former President Obama.”

During the Republican primary, Scott endorsed Trump over former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, who originally appointed him to his Senate position.
