Trump Declares ‘It Is Looking Like We Have a Deal’ Between Israel, Hamas: ‘There Will Be Peace’

President Donald Trump has declared that “a deal” to end Israel’s war with Hamas in Gaza and return all hostages was “very close.”

Speaking to a press gaggle outside the White House on Friday ahead of his trip to watch the Ryder Cup in New York, the president said:

I think we have maybe a deal on Gaza, very close to a deal on Gaza. It is looking like we have a deal on Gaza. We’ll let you know. I think it is a deal that will get the hostages back. It will be a deal that will end the war. It will be a deal — there will be peace. I think we have a deal.

His remarks came moments after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the UN General Assembly in New York. Facing a hall that had partly emptied following a walkout by delegates, Netanyahu insisted Hamas could end the war “right now” if it chose to.

No details of the potential agreement have been released, and neither Israeli nor Palestinian officials have confirmed Trump’s characterisation. But the parallel messages underscored the intensifying pressure on a resolution.
