Tucker Carlson Slams CBS Reporter’s Question to Psaki About US Entering War in Ukraine as ‘Demented’ and ‘Utterly Nihilistic’
Fox News host Tucker Carlson slammed CBS News Radio’s Steven Portnoy on Thursday for his question to White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki about why the United States and its NATO allies can’t militarily attack Russia over its actions in the Kyiv suburb of Bucha.
“Why shouldn’t the images from the atrocities from Bucha compel a worldwide unified coalition kinetic response,” asked Portnoy on Tuesday.
“You mean a military war,” asked Psaki. “Tell me more about what you mean.”
“Sure,” replied Portnoy. “A military response led by the United States and the international partners.”
“As in bringing military troops on the ground from the United States and NATO,” asked Psaki.
“Well, the president described ‘outrageous’ things. You’ve called them atrocities,” said Portnoy.
“You’ve said perhaps we should brace ourselves for worse.”
“Why not?” he said.
Psaki responded:
I think what the president’s objective is and his responsibility is to make decisions that are in the interest of the United States and the national security of the United States and the American people and not to go to war with Russia. It’s to do everything in our power to hold them accountable, to support efforts through international systems, to do exactly that. And to provide military assistance, security assistance and support to the Ukrainian people and the Ukrainian government. That’s exactly what we’re doing. But it is not in our interests or in the interests of the American people for us to be in a war with Russia.
Carlson did not hold back in responding to the exchange:
Ever notice that it is the very same people who are so personally afraid of a flu virus that they’re still wearing their little masks in public. Those same people are the ones who are encouraging other people’s kids to go die on a battlefield.
So the question was, why shouldn’t these pictures we’re seeing on television justify old war with Russia? That’s what the reporter asked. And for once the president’s publicist, as you just saw, seemed lost for words. ‘You mean a military war,’ she asked? Sure, said the reporter.
And without the bombing begins and some huge number of Americans die. Sure, let’s start World War III. This is demented. It’s so completely reckless and crazy, so utterly nihilistic that you’d like to think it’s just one overheated kid in the White House briefing room failing to get his emotions under control after watching too many particularly upsetting news segments from Ukraine. And they are upsetting.
But it’s not just one emotionally incontinent reporter in the briefing room, it’s everyone in Washington.
