WATCH: ‘The View’ Host Confronts Kamala Harris About Her Disastrous Viral Moment On the Show

The View’s Sunny Hostin asked former Vice President Kamala Harris whether it was their specific interaction during an interview that proved to be the “tipping point” in her 2024 election loss to President Donald Trump.

Harris joined the table on ABC’s The View on Tuesday to promote her new book on the 2024 presidential election, 107 Days. During the chat with a full table of View hosts, Harris admitted she did not “fully appreciate” how much voters wanted her to distinguish herself from then-President Joe Biden.

Hostin later brought up that she was the one to directly ask Harris during the campaign what she would have done differently than Biden in office. Harris at the time said she could not think of anything. In her book, she described the moment as pulling the pin from a grenade.

“You write you had no idea you just pulled the pin on a hand grenade. In the moment, I knew,” Hostin told Harris, then asking whether her specific question marked the “tipping point” in the election.

“No,” Harris assured her.

“Good because Sunny doesn’t want to take the blame,” Joy Behar joked.

Harris then knocked Trump on campaign promises she argued he hasn’t fully followed through on, like tackling inflation and bringing down the costs of everyday items. The former vice president blamed her election loss on both her not separating herself from Biden enough and voters’ concerns about rising costs and the economy.

Check out the full exchange below:

KAMALA HARRIS: I realize now that I didn’t fully appreciate that how much of an issue it was.

SUNNY HOSTIN: Yeah, that President Biden was deeply unpopular. I did realize that. And during your appearance, and you write about it, you say everything about my appearance on The View was going well until it wasn’t. And if you recall, you were here 28 days before the election, and I asked you if there was anything you would have done differently than President Biden during the past four years. And you said quote, “there is not a thing that comes to mind,” end quote. You write you had no idea you just pulled the pin on a hand grenade. In the moment, I knew. The Trump campaign weaponized your answer against you, my question, and some, including James Carville and Jake Tapper, point to that answer as a turning point in your candidacy. Do you think that moment tipped the election?

HARRIS: No, no.

JOY BEHAR: Good because Sunny doesn’t want to take the blame.

HARRIS: There was kind of a confessional happening here! No… there were many things. I mean, listen, I do believe one of the biggest deciders of the outcome of that election was that the American people were sick of things being so expensive and wanted that the prices would come down. And that’s where, this is part of why I wrote the book, which is let’s remember in those 107 days what Donald Trump was talking about. First of all, he said his number one priority and the number one thing he would do is bring down costs. That’s what he said. And I believe there are a lot of people who voted for him believing that’s what he would do. Fast forward to today, prices are higher, the cost of food is higher, inflation is higher, unemployment is higher. He lied.
