‘You Could Be Next’: House Democrat Tells MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace That Trump Could Disappear Anyone
Rep. Seth Moulton (D-MA) said Friday that due process protections in the United States were under threat to such a degree that anyone could be sent away.
That included MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace and her audience, who Moulton said risked being sent out of the country and imprisoned in the same manner as Kilmar Abrego Garcia.
On MSNBC’s Deadline: White House, the host reacted to remarks from Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) regarding his trip to El Salvador.
Van Hollen had just returned from meeting Abrego Garcia, who has been imprisoned there since March. The Trump administration admitted it deported him in error but has stonewalled the courts regarding his return.
Wallace introduced Moulton during the broadcast by citing Van Hollen’s comments on due process.
“Congressman, as we’ve been watching Senator Van Hollen saying, protecting due process, saying this, ‘If you violate it for one, you threaten it for all.'”
She asked Moulton to respond to the quote from the Maryland Democrat. Moulton replied:
Well, that’s what people need to remember, is that this can happen to any of us. Every American needs to know, as you watch this on TV, that you could be next. This administration has no red lines. The Republicans in Congress who enable this administration clearly have no red lines. Senator Van Hollen was asked about that as well. I see it with my colleagues, my Republican colleagues, in the House. I don’t know what their red lines are. And so this could happen to you next.
Van Hollen said Friday that returning Abrego Garcia to the US was not just about him, but “everybody who resides in the United States of America.”
The Maryland Democrat added, “If you deny the constitutional right of one man, you threaten the constitutional rights and due process for everyone else in America.”
