CNN’s Abby Phillip Airs Striking Montage Contrasting Fox News Coverage of Trump and Hunter Biden Verdicts
CNN host Abby Phillip aired a stunning montage of Fox News hosts to contrast conservative reactions to former President Donald Trump’s conviction, when hosts were seen “slamming the rule of law, slamming the judge, the jury, and the verdict” only to “be singing a completely different tune” when it comes to Hunter Biden’s conviction.
The montage flips between reactions to the Trump verdict, “just 12 days ago,” as Phillip observes, and the response to the outcome of Hunter Biden trial.
On one hand, on May 30, Phillip shows Fox News host Jeanine Pirro claiming the Trump trial challenges “faith in the criminal justice system” while Hunter Biden’s trial is characterized as a “clear-cut case” demonstrating that “clearly no one’s above the law.”
Fox News Legal Analyst Andy McCarthy can be seen blasting the Trump trial as a “very political exercise,” but Hunter Biden had “a very fair trial.”
Fox News host Laura Ingraham rips the Trump verdict for having turned the U.S. into a “banana republic” only to praise the fact that Hunter Biden’s “luck ran out” as a result of his conviction.
The montage goes on.
Phillip concludes: “These are two different trials under very different circumstances. Hunter Biden was federal Trump’s was not. The crimes and the evidence all completely different. But you can’t claim the justice system is dead because of a single conviction, while also praising it for another. You can’t claim President Biden is weaponizing the Justice Department to go after his enemies when that same department just convicted his own son.
“But in a world of MAGA,” she added, “perhaps you can.”
Some hosts on Fox were critical of the Hunter Biden case. Trey Gowdy said on air last week, “I’m not sure we would be in a Delaware federal court if this defendant’s last name were not Biden.” Noting he never tried this kind of case when he served as a federal prosecutor, Gowdy asked: “I struggle… that this is really the best use of federal resources?
