Fox & Friends Struggles to Trash Michelle Obama Speech After Griff Jenkins Calls It ‘Strong and Pointed Case’ Against Trump
Fox & Friends hosts rattled off some complaints about former First Lady Michelle Obama’s DNC speech, in a segment that was kicked off by Griff Jenkins’ declaration that Mrs. Obama “delivered a strong and pointed case against another term for president Donald Trump.”
On Tuesday morning’s edition of F&F, Jenkins set the table for a segment on the former FLOTUS’ well-received speech by noting that “The night certainly belonged to former First lady Michelle Obama, who delivered a strong and pointed case against another term for President Donald Trump in remarks that she taped before Kamala Harris was tapped as the running mate.”
Jenkins played a few seconds of the speech, then moved on to describe the rest of the convention’s first night, and preview Tuesday night’s program.
“It will also be interesting to find out how they deal with the enthusiasm factor, obviously a big challenge to create the excitement of a cheering packed hall when it’s all online,” Jenkins said.
Co-host Ainsley Earhardt followed Jenkins’ report by reading a slate of negative tweets from luminaries like Marianne Williamson, James Hohmann, and David Pakman, then said of the convention “I thought it was void of excitement.”
But she followed that with what sounded almost like a compliment for Obama, noting “Granted there’s no audience. There are no cheers. When Michelle Obama speaks, normally the crowd would be on their feet. You don’t get any of that.”
“She allegedly recorded this a week ago,” Earhardt said of the speech. “People, Donna Brazile, was saying she was disheartened or she was disappointed that she never once mentioned that Kamala Harris could be the first Black vice president as a female. And she said she wished she had addressed that. But she allegedly recorded this a long time ago or a week ago before he made the announcement.”
Earhardt then played some commentary by Chris Wallace, not the part where Wallace praised Mrs. Obama for her speech, but rather his remarks criticizing the convention’s opening minutes.
Co-host Brian Kilmeade then weighed in on the speech, saying “Listen, it’s a tough spot, nobody doubts that. But I would go out of your way to at least record something within 72 hours of the convention. How busy is Michelle Obama as first lady, as former first lady, that she couldn’t wait for Joe Biden to name a running match to talk about, since it is historic with her ethnic background, to talk about what she accomplished.”
Kilmeade also disagreed with her assessment of the country during the Obama years, saying “I think it’s quite interesting that Michelle Obama talked about how unified we were under during the President Obama years. I’m not saying it’s President Obama’s phone necessarily, but we were not unified. I can’t think of a piece of legislation that Republicans and Democrats even voted for and the only reason President Obama got reelected is because he vilified Mitt Romney. He didn’t run on what he did the first four years.”
