Al Franken Calls Out Ted Cruz During Jeff Sessions’ Confirmation Vote

On Wednesday, as the confirmation hearing for Jeff Sessions as U.S. Attorney General was ongoing, Sen. Al Franken (D-Minnesota) took some of his time speaking to make a point. While it’s not surprising that he would go after Sessions’ civil rights record, as he already did that during the confirmation hearings, he went one step further here: He tore into Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) for disparaging him by saying he was rude in how he questioned Sessions…while he wasn’t there to defend himself from Cruz. So he did the same to Cruz while Cruz wasn’t present.

“Senator Cruz misrepresented what happened,” he said. As he was interrupted, he pointed out that, basically, Cruz started this. “In my absence, he misrepresented me, he misrepresented Mr. Hebert, he personally went after me, he personally impugned my integrity. You didn’t object then, did you?!” Then he read the transcript to, in his words, “clarify the record.” Check out the wild speech at the top of the article.
